Tips for Washing Clothes in the River for Hygiene

Washing clothes in rivers is a common sight for people living in rural areas, as well as for urban dwellers living along large rivers.

They created a bamboo canoe-like area for washing clothes and bathing when the river water was deep and fast-flowing. In this area, residents washed school uniforms, clothes that needed to be washed immediately without delay.

In rural areas experiencing drought, wells in homes have dried up. They are forced to go to the river to wash their family's clothes. The river is nearly dry, but in certain areas, the flow is strong and the water is clear.   

At the teaching location the river is quite fast flowing, clear and has lots of rocks, a good area for washing for villagers who have to wash their family members' clothes in the river.

1. Choose an area with fast flowing and rocky water.
2. Prepare a board or piece of wood that is quite wide and big enough to hold your arms.
3. Install support stones at the ends and bases of the boards or wood.
4. Wet your clothes with the thought of water
5. Soap and brooch clothes until clean
6. Rinse clothes that have been soaped and cleaned of dirt in running water.
7. Wring out the rinsed cloth.
8. If you have a washing machine, wring out the clothes again when you get home in the washing machine.
9. Dry clothes in an area that is not exposed to direct sunlight.
