Specialization of Human Body Cells

The human body contains cells on a microscopic scale. These building blocks of life combine and work in harmony to form a functioning human body. While many cells make up simple body parts, such as tissues, some cells have complete and complex tasks.

These specialized cells are specially designed to carry out their intended function. Each of these cell types is formed and operates in opposite directions, determining that the cell is capable of carrying out the bodily functions necessary for it to end.

Neuron

Neurons are specialized cells that carry messages in the human brain. These cells come in a variety of shapes and sizes. While these cells share some similarities with other cells, they also have special features that allow them to complete the expected communicative function. These cells have projections called dendrites and axons that carry information to and, releasing information from, the cell itself. Some also contain structures and carry chemicals that are specialized for electrochemical communication, enabling them to communicate with each other and make basic thinking and bodily functions possible.

Muscle Cell

Muscle cells make movement possible. These cylindrical cells are made of banded fibers that allow contraction. Through the function of these specialized cells, the human body can complete various kinds of movement-based tasks. These cells, like many in the human body, join together to make larger body structures.

Sel Sperm

sperm cells Special are needed for human reproduction. These cells contain mostly a nucleus. Unlike some stationary cells, these cells are highly mobile because they must move to find the egg for fertilization to occur. Mitochondria in sperm cells provide energy so that special cells of this type need to move at high speed.

Red Blood Cells

Red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body, delivering it to the organs that need this life-giving gas. These cells lack the various fragments normally associated with cells, including mitochondria and the nucleus. The absence of these organelles allows cells to carry more oxygen throughout the body. This type of cell is dominated by hemoglobin, the chemical that allows the absorption and transport of oxygen.

Leukocytes

Leukocytes do the job to keep the human body free from acne. These cells acquire and destroy microbes in the human body, respond to and treat pus. Because these cells must move to the site of infection, they are very mobile and can even push through the capillary walls if needed to reach the swollen area. Leukocytes are very flexible, able to change shape as needed as they move throughout the body.
