A job search site, Dice, released the results of a survey of 3,993 participants. The results indicate that discrimination against women continues to occur in the workplace .
According to the survey, 62 percent of women said their mocked ideas were often ignored until a male employee shared similar insights. Half of female employees working in the technology industry said they frequently encounter such incidents.
The survey also predicted that 1.4 million jobs would be available in computer science by 2020. They also estimated that three percent of positions would be filled by women.
Therefore, workplace conditions that seemingly trivialize women's abilities, as mentioned above, are extremely detrimental to women. This can hinder career advancement, salaries, and other work benefits.
While women's emancipation in gaining employment opportunities has indeed offered rapid progress, discrimination persists even after they have secured and pursued these jobs.
Analysis results from the Pew Research Center revealed that 42 percent or four out of 10 career women in the United States still experience gender discrimination.
They reported discrimination ranging from receiving lower wages than male employees, getting important projects, to the opportunity to get special job offers.
The survey, conducted in line with a wave of rape allegations against women in politics, media, and various industries, also revealed that 42 percent of women experience gender discrimination and 25 percent receive lower salaries than male employees even though they hold the same position.
Only five percent of male employees were found to receive less honorarium than their female colleagues.
Furthermore, 23 percent of female employees are often perceived as less competent due to gender-based arguments. Furthermore, they are also three times more likely to experience perceived slights in the workplace. Only five percent of male employees have encountered similar incidents.
Then, regarding the matter of gifts from male superiors, female employees also experienced experiences that were considered unfair.
As many as 15 percent of female employees admitted they weren't supported by male bosses. The same was true for only seven percent of male employees.
One in 10 female employees said they are often perceived as lacking the potential to complete important tasks or projects. As a result, these tasks are assigned to their male colleagues.
A study published in the United States shows that gender-based income discrimination has decreased, but not evenly. This means that it's limited to certain cities. Here are three of them:
Arlington, Texas
Between 2015 and 2016, data shows that female employees received a 12 percent increase in income, compared to only four percent for male employees.
In fact, the data also shows that the income of female employees is almost the same (98.7 percent) as that of men.
Winston-Salem, North Carolina
This city experienced the most drastic reduction in gender-based pay discrimination. According to 2016 data, the ratio of female and male employees was nearly equal (97.4 percent), compared to 84.1 percent in 2015.
Chesapeake, Virginia
In 2015, reports suggested that female employees earned only 74 percent of what male employees earned. However, that percentage changed in 2016, rising to 87.2 percent.
